Little grey boy...

Oscar is about 1 1/2 years old, a male, grey with white who is VERY playful and fun. He was nervous at the shelter and we were not sure what he was like, but after some time with him, as he relaxed, he’s a lot of fun. Loves to play and be silly, loves to be pet, and enjoys meowing and talking as you approach him.To meet this guy and get to know him, visit the WHS website.

Oscar is presently at the Washington DC Humane Society, so please take a moment to visit the site!

I’ll smile more when I have a home!

"Hi! My name is Sheba. I'm four and a half years old. On December 28th I will have been homeless for four years. That's a very long time. I'm a sweet girl and get along with other dogs but cats irritate me! Can you be the home I've been waiting for? Slups, Sheba"

I am currently living with PetPals, Inc in Wyoming...so, visit their website, call or visit if you can!! www.petpalsshelter.com

ID: 169 Gill

Gill

Gill was surrendered to the shelter after someone brought him in during the blizzard. He was already ear-tipped when the person found him and was living on the street, but definitely NOT a feral. He’s a extremely friendly stray that is the sweetest cat! Loves to be held, jumps up in your lap, and is good with other cats too. We guess his age at 4 – 5 years and he seems perfectly content being an indoors cat.

He is currenly living at the Washington DC Humane Society...

ID: 186 Ellie

Ellie

There was no discussion whether this sweet girl would come to Pet Pals in Wyoming.  We KNEW she desperately needed help. How could anyone do this to a poor dog? Ellie is a Chocolate Labrador who was dealt the worst life a poor sole could have. She was first involved in a house fire. When her leg was injured no medical attention was given which resulted in her leg being amputated. Then because she was "defective", she was tossed into a small 4 X 8 kennel with nobody giving her any attention. Ellie is starved for attention. She tries to play until she collapses.

Party for Rosie!

Xrays show my hips are hereditary birth defects and my femur bones are rubbing on the bones of my sockets.I am three years old and was thrown out like the trash, when all I want to do is run and play. NOW, I’m having a party, hip, hip hurray! If you cannot attend my party, I still need friends and a home someday, so help me if you can. Learn more about me at Pet Pals, Inc in Wymong:) Love, Rosie

ID: 196 Louise

Louise

I’M IN A FOSTER HOME! This sweet, beautiful girl, Louise, was found outside, and now is healthy and ready for her loving home. About 10-11 months old, she’s affectionate, playful and curious. She loves to bat toy mice and balls; even carries her toys around the house from floor to floor - I usually wake up to find a few furry toy mice on my bed in the morning! Louise (who I call "Lulu") is a beautiful torti, affectionate, but a bit more shy (we’re working on that!). She’ll often sit on the couch next to me, rolling on her back for a tummy rub. Come meet these two special girls! To meet Lulu, contact her foster Wendy at: wsimonson@verizon.net

ID: 191 Little Bit Litter

Little Bit Litter

WE’RE IN A FOSTER HOME!  Little Bit, and his brothers Moe and Tippy, and sister Shiloh.  They were rescued by the Washington Humane Society, living in an RV on someone's property, and have been in foster care getting used to being part of a family.  They are very playful, healthy, have had our first shots, and have already been neutered and micro-chipped. They are now ready to start seeing company to pick out our forever families.  They would love to go in pairs, but would consider going solo if you are really nice and can give them all the love and attention we need.  Email their foster parents to make an appointment to meet them at: pmhabicht@yahoo.com

ID: 197 Humphrey

Humphrey

I’m only three years old and found myself at a kill facility. Lucky for me, I ended up at Pet Pals and I am learning social skills. I have enjoyed walking with other dogs and I’m learning that the world is not out to take my toys!

If you have patience with me, I promise to be a good boy. I already do what’s asked of me and will climb into a bath tub! For some reason, I have learned to trust children more than adults, but if you baby talk to me, I will love you too. I have slight skin allergies which aren’t a huge problem.

With a little love, I promise to be a good family member and will protect you, but I’m just so scared of this scary world.

Hugs & Slobbers,
Humphrey"

UPDATE:
Humphrey broke through a gate…in fact two gates and we found him playing with a small Pug! We moved the Pug and Humphrey broke through a gate and was playing with two other large dogs. He now plays with another large dog. Hum, perhaps he does get along with other dogs.

Humphrey has now been trained a number of tricks! He has also gained much needed weight and weighs in at 150 pounds. His allergies have also gone away now that he’s on decent food!

Give him a chance...he deserves it! Pet Pals, Inc of Wyoming.

Babies

We call them Alvin, Simon and Theodore, but I am sure they will forgive us if they are female:) They are happy, healthy kittens despite the fact that their mom is a feral that cannot be found. They are learning to crawl, and move pretty fast! They all like their chins being rubbed as well:)

They are presently being bottle fed in foster care, but will need good homes once they are weaned and ready to go!!

Please contact aburgess@washhumane.org if interested.

Begonia!

    Terrier Mix (Female/Adult/16 lbs.)
  • Good with dogs: Yes
  • Good with cats: Probably
  • Good with kids: Yes
  • Special Needs: None

My name is Begonia and I am a beautiful little girl.  Well, here is what I can tell you about my story.  My friend, Deacon, and I were found and taken to the pound by a "citizen."  We stayed together at the pound until a very nice lady rescued us.  She kept us and took good care of us until we could come to Friends of Homeless Animals in Northern VA.

I love other dogs and really love to be around people.  I would even love for you to stay home with me as much as you can.  My foster family says I am the cutest thing and I sleep in the bed with my two-legged sister. You may notice by my picture that I really love to lie on my back and get belly rubs.  If you even look a little bit like you are going to pet me, I will turn over...hoping to get one.  I love to hang out with the family and really don't like the crate at all.  If you put me in it, I will cry and cry until you take me out.  I even am already housetrained.

To see more pictures of me, please click here.

I am in foster care, so please ask to meet me.  You can get more information about me by calling 703-385-0224 or emailing doginfo@foha.org.

ID: 209 Baron

Baron

Baron is a shaggy guy with a big smile and a sweet soul. He is a griffin terrier mix, which means he looks just like Benji, only bigger. And check out his adorable white paws! His family adopted him as a puppy, but recently lost their home to foreclosure and had to give him up. He's now 4-years-old and within a short period of time went from scared and not well-socialized to the friendliest guy on the planet - lover of dogs and humans both;) He follows his foster mommy everywhere she goes and is quick to be attached. He would make a great family dog! ID: 211 Skipper

Skipper

Ahoy there, mateys! It’s me, your Skipper. How fare you landlubbers? I’m faring quite well me-self, now that I done made me way to Friends of Homeless Animals. I just happened to appear one day in the driveway of said place, and in they took me, they did. I was quite a sight, injured eye and dirty coat I was sporting, indeed. And not neutered to boot! Well, off to ye olde veterinary specialist we went to let them have a look-see at me olde eye, so injured it needed to be removed. And me olde boy parts went sailing away, too many homeless animals already, to be true. Old Skipper needn’t be adding to the homeless kitten population. Now, with my one-eyed, "pirate cat" visage, I may be looking a might tough for a feline to you, but I’m really quite a puss n’ boots, truth be told. I must admit to preferrin’ the company of ye humans to other felines, but I’m gettin’ used to sharin’ me ship with these other cats. I’ve yet to make one walk the plank. It’s hard to tell what my former seafarin’ days were like, but I sorely missed human companionship.  I’m the sort of young lad who makes up his mind what he wants to do, and he’s apt to get it, too, unless you distract me with toys. Oh, I loves me the toys! Feathers and toys I can chase...aye, huzzah for toys! For such bright and shiny treasure as a feather-covered toy, I’ll stay here aboard dry land for days and days to come in a new forever home with you.

For more information about adopting this cat, call 703-385-0224 or email adopt-a-cat@foha.org

Rascal

Just call me Rascal. I’m big, beautiful and a real people kitty. I love kids and will play and sleep with them. Nice dogs are okay too - as long as they will share their bed and water with me. Other cats - meh. I also enjoy being brushed and will sit on your lap as long as you like while you pay attention to me. I am a mature black neutered male.

ID: 213 Siamese

Siamese

I AM IN FOSTER CARE!
Special Needs Adoption! Pointe is a 4-month-old, female, chocolate point Siamese kitten. She's a sweet, friendly, and very inquisitive girl, looking for her permanent home. Imagine a dog-like cat that follows you around and is very social. As soon as she is spayed, she'll be ready for her permanent home. She'd be fine to go to a home with other cats or as a single, as she's used to being by herself, as she is in foster care, but very intrigued when she is allowed to play with other kittens or cats.
She is a Special Needs adoption because she was born or suffered a spinal injury as a kitten, so she is somewhat incontinent. She has a mega colon (medical term), so her bowels are not regular due to her injury. She dribbles some and would do best in a SAFE indoor/outdoor setup, a family-owned barn home, or an environment where if she has an accident it would not be an issue. She uses the litter box, but is unaware of occasional accidents. We are putting her on a special diet to help correct this (testing it now) and x-rays revealed this is not something that can be corrected by surgery. To meet this sweet heart, email Alyson at: aburgess@washhumane.org
*Please note all adoptions of Foster Cats and Kittens will NOT be finalized until the Spay/Neuter surgery, FELV/FIV testing, and required vaccines have been completed. Approved adoptions will remain in a pending status until the results of these tests and completion of these medical procedures

In Loving Memory of Sajo

EvieAlo special Featured Pet from one of our wonderful friends:

Sajo’ was more than just my best friend. She saved my life on several occasions when I would have an asthma attack, she always brought me my inhaler. I didn’t teach her this either. One day, I had an attack and didn’t have my inhaler close to me. She seen me use it when I had an attack so she ran and retrieved the inhaler, brought it to me, and sat with me until I was better. She developed a brain tumor which took her life last month. She is dearly missed but will never be forgotten. Pawz up my Angel.

ID: 222 Lulu

Lulu

AM IN FOSTER CARE! My name is Lulu and I’m a beautiful 3-year-old Persian girl who arrived here on 4-7-11.

I am a sweet little girl and I usually have my tongue stuck out (which could be the result that I was over-bred). I just love people and I’m very laid back. I also have the FIV virus, but please do not let that scare you. I’m healthy and if I am adopted to a loving indoor home where I get lots of healthy food, I could live just as long as cats without FIV.

King Street Cats has done really well adopting out FIV kitties. I would be a good buddy for someone who has an FIV kitty, or could be the only kitty in a home. FIV cannot be transmitted to other animals (like dogs, rabbits, etc.), cannot be transmitted to humans, and I can only give it to another kitty if I bite them (and I’m not a biter). Currently I am in a home with other FIV kitties.

If you are interested in adopting me, please contact King Street Cats

ID: 226 Rex

Rex

Name: Rex
Breed: Dachshund
Age: 8 Years
Size: Small
Adoption Donation: 0
Other: Neutered Male, vaccinations current

Rex is looking for a new home due to medical problems in his family, who were very sad to see him go. He's happy that 4 Luv of Dog was able to find a foster home for him!

Foster Home Feedback

September 19th: Rex is such a little lovebug! He takes a little bit of time to warm up to you but then he absolutely must have you in sight at all times. Rex ignores kitties unless they try and play with him. I think he would do best in a home that if they have kitties, the kitties are older and calmer. Mine are still young so they just want to play with him constantly and Rex is just not that kind of doggie. Rex does deal with a bit of separation anxiety and does not like to be left alone. He will whine and bark but does calm down after a bit and when you come back he gets soooo excited and is so very happy to see you! Rex loves to be outside exploring all the smells and sounds but does seem to have a desire to eat random debris off the ground so you would need to watch that. Rex would probably do best in a home that could have someone there with him at all times so he could feel safe and secure. Rex will be a joy for any person that adopts him!

ID: 227 Sebastian

Sebastian

Jackson County Animal Shelter, Cottageville, WV

Sebastian is about 8 years old. Some think he is husky and some say malamute. He was seized by the humane officer and brought to the shelter on 9/23 along with three other dogs who were tied to a chain link fence with no shelter, food, or water. Sebastian should weigh 100 pounds; instead, he weighs 40 pounds. He was found with dirt and feces covering him and he has internal parasites, but he is heartworm negative. His incisors are worn, but he is eating now that he is being offered food! Sebastian is a friendly dog who gets along well with both people and other dogs. The volunteers were enjoying having him outside and brushing him, and he was enjoying it, too. Sebastian needs some TLC, but he can be a beautiful and loving family member.

Rosemary

Fancy Cat Rescue Team - Herndon, VA
http://www.fancycats.org/

Rosemary is as beautiful and colorful as the rainbow colors you can see in her coat. She is not a very shy kitty and will gladly trill with delight when she likes something or give a growl when she doesn’t. This cute little tortiseshell 9 month old girl would love to follow and romp with you all around your home. She will readily jump up on the couch and head butt and nuzzle for a nice petting and... scritches session one minute and then the next its off to run laps around the house and chase all that she finds. She loves her toy \"Da Bird\" and likes to jump and try to catch it. Sometimes she gets so focused she forgets what around her and might jump right onto her sister Sage (please read about her too). She sometimes gets so excited playing with there toy that she won’t stop until she is panting. She is full of energy and trills and purrs. She is just a little overweight but is quickly loosing it with her wonderful exercise/play and a wet food diet of Pro-Plan turkey (ground). She is litter box trained, spayed and up to date on all her shots. She does get along with other kitties but will want to be the dominant one and it will have to be a slow and patient introduction. She would probably do best in a home with children in their teens or older. She has not had much interaction with doggies but would probably like to have a cat only home. She would love to be adopted with her sister Sage. She often will run over and give Sage a sniff and quick lick to say \"yea I love you.\" Black goes with everything, especially with you...

I am almost two years old, neutered, Golden/Lab and Border Collie mix

I’ve been in School since August at a Local Training Kennel. I’ve been working extremely hard here and really loving it. I recently had some visitors from SARL and they were really impressed with my progress here. Although I love being here and Love my trainers for helping me find the confidence I needed to live a happy life, we have decided I’m ready to graduate and find a home of my very own. My only concern was forgetting all the new things I’ve learned here, this was a concern for my SARL caretakers and my trainers, so in order to easy my fears my trainers said they wanted to teach my new owners that I’ve learned here. If you have any questions about me or my training please contact one of my K9 caretakers at SARL and they would be happy to fill you in or set up a meeting.

Henry

Henry is a 6 month old deaf and blind Great Dane puppy, but don’t tell him that because it’s not slowing him down one bit. Henry is a happy, healthy and playful puppy. Henry is a quick learner, he figured out his foster home and yard in no time. Henry is your typical puppy with two speeds: sleeping and zooming. Henry likes to play with toys, drag blankets around, and he loves to romp and play with his foster brother in the yard. His older foster sister isn’t impressed with his puppy antics, so Henry is respectful of that, displaying good puppy manners. Henry pays no attention to the resident cat. Henry has been friendly, loving all people and dogs he has met so far. Car rides are fun, and sticking your head out the window makes it even better. Henry is crate trained, and potty training is coming along well. Henry really needs a fenced in yard to keep him safe as he cannot see you or hear you. Henry is in need of a home...

She's safe and arriving today, but we're looking for potential adopters, or even a sponsor so we can get her cleaned up before being adopted out. ID: 257 Babylon

Babylon

Babylon is one good looking boy and he knows it! He loves to strut his stuff in front of all the ladies here at Georgia Ave. Babylon is a big personality and he is looking for a family that will accept him for who he is. His favorite thing to do is rub against your leg for both attention and petting. However, Babylon also likes his "me" time and enjoys his space. It would be best if he goes to a home with cat experience and one that does not have small children as Babylon does not enjoy heavy handed petting. If you pick Babylon to be your forever cat you will be guaranteed to have a lifetime of entertainment and unconditional love!
This pet also is eligible for 30 days of pre-paid pet health insurance. For more information please visit www.sheltercare.com or call 1-866-375-PETS

Olive

Olive came to our shelter on 01/06/2012. She was transferred from another shelter due to her medical needs. Olive was born on 01/04/2007 and weighs about 37 pounds.

Olive has the sweetest personality. She loves to have belly rubs and give kisses. She is very playful. She likes to chase balls, play with tug toys or most any other toy that looks like fun to her. Olive loves to be around people and is very eager to please everyone. She has been a staff favorite at the clinic!

With a proper introduction she gets along with other dogs but, doesn’t like cats. Olive is crate trained, but we are not sure if she is house trained.

She had to have Third Eye Lid Surgery (otherwise known as Cherry Eye). She also had a corkscrew tail that had to be removed. Olive also has food allergies and is on a special dog food. She is doing great now.

ID: 263 Libby

Libby

I’m Libby, a black puff-ball cutie. I was the last of my litter of kittens to be rescued off the streets – in fact, my three siblings were trapped almost a month prior than I was. There I was, out on the lam, and I managed to get myself captured... (aka rescued), too. Imagine my surprise to find out that living in a home with a family is pretty nifty! While I can be a little shy at first, once you win my trust, I turn into a love bug. I often roll over so you can pet my belly. I may not come run to you for pets right away, but believe me, I’ll be waiting for them. If you’re giving me pets and then you stop before I’m ready for my love-session to be over, I’ll come give you sweet nose rubs – who could possibly resist? I love living with my foster family, including the children in the home. I sleep in bed with my 8-year-old human foster brother every night..

Gabriel is a very beautiful boy! He turned 4 years old in October and has primarily been on a farm. BUT Gabriel would much prefer to be a household pet! In fact, he is so sure that he should be in the house that he gets in trouble on the farm! He is not good with livestock and hasn't met a chicken that he didn't like....to eat! But he is good with other dogs and even cats! Gabriel would make a fine bodyguard for the right family! Loyal and calm, he would certainly love to make you a part of his "herd" to guard! This is a courtesy post....and Gabriel is not in a shelter situation. However, he needs to find a home quickly.....as he is dreading being out in the winter weather! Interested in adopting Gabriel? Go to our website and fill out the online application. Upon application approval, a meeting with be set up for you to meet this big guy!

ID: 271 Tonka

Tonka

Rainbow K Ranch - New Cumberland, OH

Tonka is a coming 4 year old grade, paint gelding. He was bought by a man and kept in a boarding situation. He was not handled and left to run loose, once he lost his novelty. The man stopped paying his board and Tonka was auctioned off. We knew the horse personally, and the person who had owned him, so we bought him at the public auction that was put on. Because of his attitude and his good, fat condition, he could have been prime choice for a meat buyer. Due to Tonka being approved to adopters, and then not being able to be taking for various reasons, he is set to go to a trainer so he can widen his adopter base. Without the training, he was only available to experienced homes with a trainer or training experience. He will be re-evaluated upon his return of 30-60 days of training and starting him under saddle. Tonka is current on his vaccinations (including Strangles), farrier care, and deworming. His adoption fee is 0. (References and home checks are a requirement.)

ID: 280 kahn

kahn

Kahn is a 19 year old Blue and Gold Macaw. He loves to be the “class clown” and will make you laugh and giggle with delight. He will need extra love and attention the 1st couple of months to get him adapted to you and your household. He readily steps up to a confident person, but it appears that he likes females better than males. He loves to play in the bath tub and his favorite movie seems to be “Cars.” Kahn is also a foot-biter and chaser, so if you plan to let him walk around your home on the floor, wear boots, lol!  He does also occasionally scream or screech for attention, but will end that with a firm “stop it.” This vocalizing is an issue we are working on and a quite home maybe the best in the long run. He eats a mix of Zupreem food varieties with fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts and his favorite treat is apples. He will say “Apple Mmmm.”

Captain is best described as a gentle giant. We estimate that this Belgian boy was foaled around 1984, and has been acting as a therapy horse for a gentleman with Parkinson's. Captain was never phased by uncontrolled movements or uneven gaits, he would just stop and start keeping pace with the person walking him. He is broke to ride, and is easy going under saddle, although his go and steering are a bit rusty. He also LOVEs to be scratched, and adores people! Hazel

This is a very very sweet but verrry sad little old lady named Hazel who really needs a peaceful, comfy "retirement home" urgently. Her beloved momma who raised her from a kitten and spent the next 15 years taking loving care of her precious cat was taken abruptly from her life when she was put into a nursing home suffering from dementia, now this poor girl is left behind in an empty house in  Jersey City, New Jersey except for the memories of happier times there. Although she needs sub-Q fluids once a day, she takes them easily and otherwise would be no trouble at all, probably quietly resting most of the time. She is verrry sweet and equally gentle and she purrs if you even make eye contact with her.

ID: 292 LucyandFox

LucyandFox

Until recently, Lucy and Fox lived in a dank filthy shed. Although it was attached to a small fenced in area, it was a lonely and difficult place for them to live. They received very little attention or social interaction since their guardian passed away 6 years ago. The second guardian passed away a few months ago, and the person inheriting the property did not want them. We were contacted by the real estate agent selling the property and when our volunteers went to meet them, Lucy and Fox were so scared they could barely get near them. Their shed was filthy, smelly and not fully protected from the elements. Despite living in such harsh conditions, with a bit of love and attention these girls are learning to trust people again and we are delighted with their transformation! Now that they are out of the shed, their confidence is increasing each day. They were very calm, trusting and tolerant when they spent a long day at the veterinary clinic and groomer getting makeovers and health checks.

Fox and Lucy are now in a foster home enjoying the simple pleasures in life: a walk, sniffing around the garden and lounging around in the sun. They are both very mellow, quiet dogs. They get along great with other dogs and cats, and are slowly learning that life can be good. We are looking for someone to adopt them together. They are bonded littermates who have been together since birth.

If you would like to meet Lucy, fill out our online adoption application.

Nothing torn up- just a perfectly created little nest and when I walked in, she flashed me the sweetest smile- "hey, look what I made. You can come into my fort, but it will cost you three chewy treats and a snuggle" She was so proud of herself.. She really needs a forever family to share her life with. Her heart is precious. If you'd like to meet Faith, please get in touch with us today! We've been trying to network her for awhile.. if you have a minute & it resonates in your heart to do so, will you please share her with your network? ID: 297 bunnies

bunnies

These bunnies are getting overlooked by all the other ones that are coming into the rescue. We rescued 34 bunnies from inhumane living conditions. Crowded bunnies. pregnant bunnies, dead bunnies… They were cramped in 3 different small cages, unable to hop. All the bunnies are safe with Luv-A-Bun and are feeling freedom for the first time. Grass beneath their feet, fresh air to breathe and as much hay and veggies as they can eat. They are simply in bunny heaven as for the first time they get to experience that special spring in their hop that we bunny lovers affectionately call binkies! We are so glad that we were able to take them out of the situation. But their troubles aren\’t over yet. We are in urgent need of volunteers, foster homes, adoptive homes and donations.

Description: Hi! My name is Cassidy and I am an absolutely beautiful 3 year old Boxer mix. I have been waiting here in my foster home for a wonderful family to come adopt me for a long time now and just don’t understand why. I am an outgoing pup and I love to play, especially with other dogs but I do not like cats much. I like to go for walks and am told that I am very good on a leash and that I am smart because I know some tricks! I am pretty quiet, don’t bark much and mind my manners pretty well. I’m healthy too. I’m spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and de-wormed. As much as I have enjoyed myself here with my foster family, I’m getting a little sad that I don’t have real home to call my own yet. I’m a good girl and I love my people more than anything in the world, I promise I won’t let you down!

Jonah is a great dog. We found him in a ditch in December of 2009. We don't know how long he had been there, but his leg was broken, and he was unable to walk. His leg has been repaired as much as is possible, but the leg had been broken so long that Jonah suffered nerve damage. During his recovery period, we probably spoiled him much more than we should have. Now he needs what all good dogs need: love and attention, limits and training, and consistency. Jonah loves people, but he is often too excited when he first meets them, so he does jump. Jonah is a very handsome dog! If you are interested in meeting Jonah, please visit Red Fern. Bishop

Bishop NEEDS a forever home!! He has been waiting a long time and wants so badly to have his own family. Bishop was horribly abused and needs a patient, understanding human to show him love and give him guidance. Bishop requires a fenced yard because he is timid and will run away if spooked. He cannot be placed in a home with small children since he may perceive their actions as threatening. Bishop absolutely LOVES other dogs and would do best in a home with dogs. He is very scared of men, so he would need his primary caretaker to be a woman. Having said all that, if someone would just give him a chance, they would soon realize that beneath all that fear and uncertainty lies an extremely loving and loyal dog who wants nothing more than to feel secure and loved. Please consider giving Bishop a chance to show you his true self...he has been through such pain and despair at the hands of a human...now it's time to show him love and compassion at the hands of a human!

Can you help Matt find a home?
Matt is an 11 year old pit bull who would love to live in a home again. He was rescued after being tied up outside but lost his home when they fell on more difficult times. He is good with kids and he would like to be an only dog. To find out more about Matt, go here:http://foha.org/index.php?id=27&petid=87

Paige

This is Paige. She's for adoption. Paige is suited for a confident beginner, as she can be stubborn at times. When she doesn't want to move, she just stands there until she's ready to go. Paige is a pro at getting on and off the trailer (step up and ramp), stands tied, and she loves to be groomed. She is unflappable on the trail. We've crossed over passes, wooden bridges, bicyclists, dogs, hikers, joggers, and other horses. She is a relatively easy keeper for a senior girl, but will go all day long if you let her. She currently rode the Bolivar/Zoar towpath and back. She recently had her feet finished and her teeth done. If you're interested in adopting Paige (we do have an adoption contract!), her adoption fee is 0. She is also available for a monthly lease to keep her here at the farm.

ChillyTilly

Tilly came to us in late May 2012 with 4 newborns - Chilly, Milly, Jilly and Lilly. Chilly, the only male baby, formed a very special bond with his mother and we decided to let them stay together. Tilly and her son are very sweet and devoted, and watching them snuggle together will warm anyone's heart. It is a very special and rare thing when a mother rabbit can stay with one or more of her babies for the rest of her life, and we hope someone will give Tilly and Chilly that chance by adopting this wonderful pair of bunnies.

Hi. My name is Winston, and I am 6 1/2 yr old. The nice people at Second Chance rescued me from animal control. They are guessing that I am about five years old, and think I could either be a Pug mix, or a Boston terrier mix - and I think I also have some Italian Greyhound in my mix. I was at animal control for a long time, over three weeks. It was awful there and I was so scared. When I finally went into the Second Chance's program, I was terrified of everybody and everything. And when I got to my foster mom's home, I did not trust her and I did not trust her dogs. All I wanted to do was growl and hide behind the front door. But my foster mom was so very patient with me. She fed me treats, she pet me, she held me on her lap (I only weigh 13#), and she let me sleep with her. And after spending all those nights on a cement floor, did that bed ever feel good!! It took about three days before I figured out that my foster mom really cared a lot about me and that she was not going to hurt me. Now we are really, really good friends. How I love to sit on her lap when she is reading or working on her computer! My foster mom thinks it's so cute when I stand on her leg and rest my chin on her shoulder. I also sleep right next to her at night. I feel so safe at her house, and after an adjustment period, I would feel safe with you, too. For the most part, I get along with her dogs. I find her big dog annoying and still growl at him, but the smaller ones are just great. I play with them and sleep with them sometimes. Her cats do not phase me at all. I am a really good eater and I like my chews. I can get a little "snarky" with my chews if I think someone is going to take them. Consider me a very good rider in a car. Being totally crate trained, I can go up to 9 hours in my crate; you should have one for me to use while you are gone from the home. I go outside every 2-3 hrs when my mom is home, and have even gone to the door a couple times to let her know "it's time!!!" I would make a fabulous pet for an adult person as I love attention and companionship, and would appreciate a quiet house with someone home much of the time. I probably would not do very well with children just because they are so unpredictable. Expect that I might be really scared again when I leave my foster mom's home. But I just know that if you are patient and kind to me, I will learn to trust you just like I did my foster mom. I can hardly wait to find my forever home!!!! At a recent pet adoption day, I did really well meeting new people. If you have an adult-only home, and think it could be with you, please call 651-771-5662. I've been neutered, had my teeth cleaned, and had my vaccinations, so I'm good to go!! My adoption fee is 5.

Meet Molly, a very sweet Flamepoint Siamese.  This young lady came to us from a high kill shelter with her two babies.  She is now ready to find her forever home.  She is looking for a quiet atmosphere where she can relax and be lazy all day.  She is a bit timid but once she gets to know you, she loves to have her head and chin scratched.  She would do better in a house with no young (think loud) children.  At her foster home, she ignores the dogs and doesn't seem to mind other cats.

Moony

Moony was taken in as a stray.  He was found rummaging through the trash.  He was skin and bones.  He has returned to health nicely and was neutered 2/22/13.  Mooney is friendly with other dogs, loves all people but seems to have preference towards men (may be because it's the man of the house who feeds him sirloin tips).  He likes to play with toys (don't leave your glove laying around) and is an all around happy boy.  Upon evaluation he was considered to be more Botson than anything else.  He's a little large, but the blue eye indicates Australian Shepherd or Blue Heeler (prevalent for our area).  Age is guessed to be about two years. All shots are current as of 2/22/13.  He was heartworm tested and wormed too!  Vet has said 18 months and 28 pounds of fun! Because he resembles a bully breed, two cooperating shelters have said "no" to in-take.  Please open your heart and home to this young, energetic, wanting to please boy!

Shades

Our beautiful Shades is in a wonderful foster home where he is being loved and cared for, but he needs what every kitty needs, a home of his own.  Shades needs just a little extra tlc.  He was born with a deformity in his back hip.  Every once in a while he aches. :( He is on a medication called metacam twice a week to help him. This medication is for inflamation and pain.   He is responding very well to his meds and seems to be very happy. All of a sudden he loves to be carried around, just have to be careful with his back end.  :)  He loves other kitties, and loves to snuggle.  He likes to lay on his back and be rocked like a baby.  He talks and talks, he just has so many important things to say.  He would do best in a home with older children or an older couple that would spoil him with tons of love.  Shades came to us stuffed in the back of a crate along with two other small dogs.  He was left at the shelter in the sun.  We were so Lucky Auntie Marjean was there for her shelter shift and found them.  The three would have never survived the heat.  Shades  seems to have been through more than a kitty should have to go through, but we know he is on his way to a new happy life. We just have to wait for a family to fall in love with  our beautiful boy.  Shades it 2 1/2 years old.  He is neutered and up to date on all his shots.  References are required.

Take a look at Phoenix and help her find a home! She is a five year old pit bull terrier and she could benefit from taking some walks with you to get her girlish figure back. Take a look at this sweet face. From volunteer: \\"I walked Phoenix for the 1st time today- she is a saint! She was great on the leash, taking her time and \\"smelling the flowers\\". Whoever had her must have left the refrigerator door open for her to have at it!! She needs to lose some weight but what a love- smart, sweet, gentle, and didn\’t seem to have any aggression or change in attitude when she saw other dogs. Amazingingly even keeled temperment, no ups and downs- just very consistently happy and mellow. An ambassador for the breed!! Hope she gets a home asap but I\’ll look forward to walking her until she does\\".
