Cats at Whiteville get less networking attention than the dogs. They RARELY get held over on a euth date, whilst dogs often do. They often get put down as soon as they are off stray hold, to make room for incoming strays and surrenders. This shelter only has 17 cat cages and 6 must be held as "open" for possible incoming.. so in fact there are only 11 cages in use at any time.. The kill rate at CCAC for cats has historically been over 95% per annum.. please help to change that.. Any cat not killed for cage space and which is not on hold on a Friday morning will also be killed. so all need rescue or adopt as soon as possible.

Owner surrendered at 6 years old with horrible eye disease! he is either fully blind or almost there! he doesnt see your hand until you touch him, but he is absolutely gorgeous and so friendly! gave so many kisses! i'd like to see this boy get out of there before he loses his loving personality in the kennel, and being that he has this awful eye condition, im thinking his chances of adoption from shelter are very slim! its hard to see his eyes in the pics, but they look terrible in person! they have this gooey red looking substance on them, cant see a pupil at all!

HI! I'm Nina! I am a beautiful purebred Ragdoll, with papers. I have the gorgeou...s blue eyes and the beautiful fluffy fur and colouring / markings of my breed. I am spayed and up to date on vaccinations. I am just four years old - I was born in March, 2008. I get along well with other cats and dogs and am looking for a permanent home.

I was a graduation gift. I was ordered online from a breeder in North Bay, ON. My adopters picked me up when I was a cute little 3-month old fluff-ball. Shortly after I got to my new home, I started getting sick. I started losing fur and getting bald patches over my body. Soon, my adopter, two feline and one canine family members, also started having the same thing happen to them. We were all taken to the vet, and were diagnosed with ringworm. We were all treated and got better.

Three years later, my adopters had a baby, and with all the stress, I had a recurrent infection of ringworm (although no one else did this time). With the arrival of the baby and no time to look after me / treat the ringworm, my adopters no longer want me.

So here I am, looking for my permanent home. I would need a caregiver who has the time, patience & knowledge to treat the ringworm when it comes up. If I do not undergo anymore stress, it should not come back again. Will someone please provide me with the TLC I require and adopt me for life?

ATHENS, OHIO - Athens County Dog Shelter - Anna is perhaps the most tragic case at the shelter right now. She was left at the shelter by her owner who raised her from a puppy. The woman sat in her car and cried after she left her, but was unable to take her when she moved. We are all still devastated that the woman did not find another option for Anna. She is 11 and is housetrained, spayed, and is... even litter trained in case you have to be gone for a very long time. She is bewildered, scared, and overwhelmed to be in the shelter. She is very well mannered and loving. Truly, she is a ready made pet, good with other dogs, calm, yet still has a lot of life left in her. Can anyone help this sweet girl who landed in the shelter after 11 years with the same family? She would like another chance to finish her life.

Tiny Delano shelter is in the middle of nowhere, about 40 minutes north of Bakersfield, CA, off Hwy. 99.

There is no foot traffic. The nearest neighbor is a prison. Dogs are dumped or left tied to the shelter gate and wander near the prison in search of food. Without rescue, most of these animals have no hope of getting out alive. The shelter tries extremely hard to avoid euthanasia, but too many dogs come in and not enough get adopted or rescued! HELP!

His sadness and despair is devastating. I was searching an ID number on the Baldwin Park Shelter website and I saw Johnny. The sight of him broke my heart. He got a C on his temp test and the recommendation is for him to go into an adults-only home with no other pets.

His due-out date was yesterday, Mon., ...5/14.

He was approved for euthanasia for today, Tues., 5/15. I put my name on him as networking to try to buy some time for Johnny. My hope is he will be rescued by someone with dominant breed experience who can work with him. I don't know if I can find that person, but with your help maybe we can save this sad boy. He's only a puppy...he deserves a chance.

URGENT! HELP IS NEEDED!
We teamed up with St Francis All Creature Rescue and Sanctuary in efforts to help these neglected Pit Bull/Boxer mix puppies. We rescued the mother, and the whole litter of six.

All the puppies are covered in hundreds and hundreds; possibly thousands of ticks in their ears, paws, tummy - EVERYWHERE! Their ears has so many ticks that you cannot even see the inside. They are malnourished, dehydrated, filthy, and in complete disgusting condition. We are asking for help. All six puppies and the mother need to be vetted. We spend four hours this evening 'de-ticking' the puppies, and didn't make a dent. Their ears, paws, tummies - everywhere is bleeding. They are starting to show signs of tick fever and are in need of medical help. Please help us save these dogs.

We are currently at the Riverhead ER with a beautiful Boston/Pit mix that has been hit by a car. A Green SUV doing at least 55 in a 30 mile an hour zone and hit her, just missing the owner. We are trying do do all we can to help this family save their dog. The car did not stop and kept driving. Please help if you can. DO NOT call and say you are adopting unless you truly intend on physically going to the shelter to adopt the dog. It ties up phones lines and is a waste of the staff's time to explain the adoption procedure over the phone for someone who is purposely not going to show up. They need every free second of their time to answer calls, assist actual adopters, process intakes, and care for the animals. More importantly, they will note the dog’s file that an adopter is en route which will prevent an actual adopter from saving the dog. NCAF Photographer Report 5/11: Pooh is 15in to the shoulder, about 25-30lbs 7 years old. Owner deceased. Owner's neighbor brought him in. He had a collar with the owners information on him so at least the owner cared to have his personal information listed in case he got missing. His eye was damaged by a dog. It is an old injury, but am assuming it is going to need to be removed. He is very dirty and needs to be cleaned up, he has a little bit of hair missing in the back in areas but its not spots it looks like in rows, could be from age. His tail looks like it was a botched job done unprofessionally.. He was very interested in exploring the play yard, he is very friendly but doesnt seem to know his name, walked good on lead. He was very interested in the shelter manager. When she spoke he would stop and pause to see what she had to say to him. He may be a Shelter Manager favorite. He showed no aggression when brought down the aisle to greet to the dogs and no undue interest in the cats.

I'm a loving lab mix. I am not young. I'm not beautiful nor do I have soft fluffy fur and perfect white teeth. Even though I never had a dog bed or fancy toys or treats, my daddy loved me. He used to let me come in the house. I started living out in this shed once he passed. I probably have heartworms. I could be rescued if people donate for my vetting. I also need a new family.

25 pups at the edge of death,most of them had high fever,bloody diarrhea which is lethal for pups of that age,dehydrated,fighting for their life in an isolated place far from the city. In the shelter of hell...This place is the reason I first fostered a dog from Istanbul. There are dead rats in the drinking water,no staff at all on-site..(Thank God for the volunteers that go in and bring food...but even they are not there everyday), dogs end up having to A) cross a very busy road to get to the garbage dump to try to find food or starve to death. There are bodies of the dogs who didn't make it all around...There is pee and poop everywhere....When an injured or old or weak dog is dumped there (which is often)...survival of the fittest is at play and there is no one there to separate or protect the smaller or sicker or older...In short..Its a nightmare..and has been nicknamed aptly..The shelter of hell.

Rima has just pulled( which over there just means going in and TAKING them) 9 young puppies who of course need 1. Vetting first and foremost...as you can see they arent in great shape.so I am asking..pleading really...skip that latte today and donate anything you can... Doesnt matter if its 2 dollars!!..2.fosters/adopters (there have been some offers already from Ontario Canada! Go Ontario) but more will be needed...You will not have to pay the airfare from Turkey (Unless you want to )

TASER is 10 + year old Pit Bull Terrier male. He was running at large one evening - and got into a fight with another dog, a Police Officer Tased him twice - and then Animal Control was called.

TASER has obviously had a really tough life. Most likely living out on his own for years with no regular food, shelter, or vet care. There's no telling how many people have seen Taser over the years and never helped him or called to have him rescued.

TASER is a sweet, good natured, slow moving boy. He doesn't mind the leash at all - which is surprising. He's friendly with everyone. TASER cannot be trusted around cats - at all. He would rather not be around ANY other dogs. You can tell he's had to fight for every morsel of food he's ever gotten...so sad.

TASER has a lot of scars on his body. They are NOT consistent with fighting - but with running through brambles and living outside. He's got goop y eyes - which appear to be from an infection in his sinuses. His teeth are broken, worn down, and some are missing. He may have a an abscess or gum infection I'm not sure. His right ear was obviously ripped nearly off at one point - and it's healed - but it's merely a flap - not an ear. Both ears have been infected for awhile and are dirty and crusty. He has huge jowls and he smiles! He loves to be talked to and he loves food!

TASER may not be around long. It sure would be nice if he could find a place to live out his last few months or even a year. If he could know some love and some time with regular food and little stress - would be such a blessing for this beat up old guy.

*This big guy is living in this crate outdoors. He can't even turn ar...ound in it. He gets let out 2 times a day. As you can see, he is standing in his waste. When he was let out, he urinated for what seemed like several minutes.
This is no way to live. The owner has agreed to give him up, IF we find him a home or rescue.He needs to be neutered and is likely hw positive since the owner believes preventative is a waste of money.

PETS Rescued 2 Terribly neglected, sick, hungry, dehydrated and weak dogs this past weekend. They ere full of holes and blood and puss oozing out of the infected wounds.

They are at the vet and seems to have started eating, but they need blood transfusions and a REALLY good diet and somewhere to go ASAP as vet CANNOT keep them in his kennels.

This cat was found on Sat. The kind people who found this cat has paid for it to be treated only to find out the cat is FELV positive. The vet is charging $250 a day and the people are out of money. The cat is doing much better and has a chance to live only.. they have no where for it to go. They will have no choice but to put it to sleep tomorrow.
(They live in an apartment complex that does not allow cats )

This is Leo! I found Leo out side of my apartment building in Valley Stream, NY Saturday afternoon. As you can see by the pictures he was suffering from a bad upper respiratory infection and had crusts that covered his eyes and nose. He was unable to eat or drink. My husband and I quickly went into action and saved him. We brought him to our local Vet and had him checked out, they determined that he is a neutered male adult cat approximately 6-8 years old. He received rabies vaccination, and is treated for fleas. Furthermore he is being treated with antibiotics and IV fluids for the infection. He is already doing better and urgently needs a home. This baby was rescued today from the mean streets. He was tied to a pole in his own feces and urine, without water or food a year ago. A very kind doctor released him and has been feeding him for the past year, he gave him bath in the clinic bathroom every few weeks and even shaved off his severely matted hair at times. The poodle really loves him and came to the parking lot every morning just to see him. With the help of this amazing doctor, we were finally able to rescue our baby lamb. NOW I REALLY NEED A FOSTER IN OC OR WEST LA. Hope for Paws made a generous offer to fully vet this beautiful lamb named Pete. All of our rescues are pre-vetted prior into going to their foster family.

Diesel is a neutered male fully vetted Yellow Lab/bulldog mix. Appears to be 1-...2 yrs. old. He was adopted but was left in kennel and kept climbing out. He has a stub tail and has a sweet personality. Would be best with a home where he can be walked or let out with leash or open land.

UPDATE !!! ** I just got off the phone with Joy again: ** She is an INCREDIBLE lady who has 20 dogs at her house..ALL with physical disabilities that no-one would most likely ever adopt..she was crying alot during our conversation which made me cry..but, here's the scoop: Duke went briefly to the animal hospital yesterday..the doctor gave them Keflex (antibiotic), Tremadol (pain killer), vitamins..gave him a Drontol (b/c he was FULL of worms too)..he wants to do blood work next week but thought it best for Joy to have him home and care for him first..she was instructed to give him 2 Epson salt baths per day and then she puts 'Silver Shield' ointment on afterwards..the saddest part was that he was crying in pain in the bath last night but when HE SAW HER cry DUKE LICKED HER TEARS...omg,there are NO WORDS ...Joy already owes thousands of dollars to this hospital but she says that the Dr there is VERY kind and accepts her small payments whenever she can make them..DUKE shivers, so she has him in blankets and wants to go to a dept store caalled 'Roses' to buy him an orthopedic bed for $20..he has been eating 4-5 small meals of 'ID' food & 'Diamond Puppy' food,,she tries to only show him love but she told me she cries when she sees his eyes roll back in his head while he eats...she did tell me that he is 'comfortable' now and she really feels "he will make it". This is a 'wait and see' situation..her friend is going to buy little booties tonight to try and keep him warm...** They are putting together a Paypal account and then a chipin will be established in a couple of days. *** MY REQUESTl PLEASE join the Mercy Fund,Inc group b/c that is where Joy will post updates..** FOR NOW: she gave me her personal address so that anyone could send a supply or treat (I had to drag this out of herb/c she didn't want to ask for anything..THIS LADY IS DISABLED and is ONLY living on disability pay,,she has Rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia and heart problems, and YET she still LIVES to help animals...WOW! 2 vets have said this is freeze branded, when the hair grows back it is different color. this is not the norm. in hunting where the number is painted on. in this case the numbers look to be permanent.

FL, Fort Lauderdale "Miracle" Hit by car and than a train!!!!

This lucky beauti...ful "Miracle" girl was picked up by Broward County Animal Care in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The officer was driving down the road and noticed a dog running in the middle of traffic. Within seconds of that, he watched her get hit by a car. After rolling on the ground from the hit of the vehicle, she got up and kept running with fear. After following her for about a mile with an attempt to slow the traffic around them, eventually she turned off onto some railroad tracks and sat down. As the officer approached her, he could see the lights of a train coming behind her. As it got closer, it began sounding its horn. The dog never moved and was completely run over by the entire train. After regaining composure from what the officer had just seen, the officer returned to the tracks expecting to pick up a dead dog. She was still alive... As the officer approached her again, she stood up and started to run again. Not wanting to leave her out there with unknown injuries, the officer was finally able to get to her, picked her up and carried her to the truck. This dog went through tremendous trauma but something out there decided it wasn't her time to go. She is fine with only a gash and minor cuts and scrapes on the head and face. Please help in doing everything in your power to make sure she gets the second chance that she has earned.

*Available for adoption!* Meet DANIEL (ID# 0929686)! 1.5 years old, 42 lbs, Male. Information about how/where to adopt is posted beneath the bio. PLEASE SHARE! Thank you! A volunteer writes: Daniel is perfect. Several of us agreed immediately, captivated by this gorgeous, gentle, love of a dog who is just extraordinary all around. He is serene and goofy at the same time. He is an angel on the leash. An angel! He was a delight when he saw other dogs in the park and a delight when he saw a stray cat, too. He is the most wonderful lap companion--he gets up and settles in, content to stay close for long periods of time broken only by his fervent kisses. And oh, what a kisser! Daniel loves tummy rubs almost as much as he loves kisses, and needless to say we are delighted to do anything to return his love and unending devotion. This dog is nothing short of magic (he appears to be house trained), and he is not to be missed. We sigh just thinking of him...He's perfect!
